about

This song is 'For...' the lives and memories of Sam 'Chap One' McNulty and Slycoh Marowa and all those who have left us way too soon. ‘For...’ combines spacious future jazz aesthetics, serious bass pressure, hauntingly beautiful vocals from Ethiopian singer Enushu Taye and deep trumpet lines by Ian Dixon both from Ethio-jazz purveyors Black Jesus Experience - frequent collaborators with Mulatu Astatke. Lyrically, it’s a wistful, nostalgic musing on the passing of friendships, with Monk transforming the personal into something hauntingly universal.

lyrics

Your path isn’t defined by limits,

If spirits infinite im living mine

Trying to find.. all that we’re given

Seeking healing reason being

Life fleeting my dreaming

Eyes reaching horizon leaning

Forward towards dawn each night dying to be

n reborn in the morning,

All in for the calling falling in love

and all of the above

baptized in a vast tide

looking back I

Thought it would never end

,.. blink and then,

…lost a friend to foreverness,

Dark times pass I

the far side slip by like lifetimes

… no lifelines just questions invested,

and I’m counting my blesssings

eventually whats meant to be will be

and all that’s ill will cease,

river runnin deep looking front of me,

cast off that black dog, ,

and the catch was..

they ain’t never coming back bruv,

so hold close those moments … stolen..

by the coldest of omens

holding on for the love below..

coming in from the cold

coz all I know is to sing from the soul

this is for fam and old crew

a song for Sam and those who rolled through

The call of the lion.. never weakens

Each time we turn.. the yearn deepens

We played hard and dreamt large,

Young men with Broken hearts

The other side’s too far

walking Wounded hiding scars

can’t lose this my crew too thick

Dreams lucid we been wounded

But get through it the movement

Like two steps lets do this

Fly by night not the quiet type

fire in my eyes take flight like

Pegasus temperatures rising like climate

My sentences never settle for silence

You’ve entered the mind of a giant…

But no man is an island

Eyes on the high seas no time for for the fine print

Sippin rum with a sprinkle of lime in

To the sky for the life of the Chap One,

From the heart is exact where I rap son

Spit fire retire with black lung

Yeah kid its like that son

Had rap strung rollin in an old Datsun

.. from ... up north like Snow…

but the cold wind don’t blow

In the tropics we got higher than cockpits

And old friends we don’t talk that much no more

But I still got love for you and yours
